The communications department works under the direction of the superintendent and is involved in community and public relations, internal communications and media relations. The district's communications coordinator works closely with administration and staff to inform employees and the public about what is happening in the district. The department publishes the district and special publications such as the district calendar and annual report, handles media requests, creates content and updates the district website and announcement e-newsletters, and maintains the district's social media presence on Facebook and Twitter.

Consistency in language, style and identity standards are vital to convey the district's mission. A strong visual identity projects a distinctive look and creates a lasting impression. Consistent use and application of the district's visual identity is critical to building and maintaining familiarity with Moorhead Area Public Schools. Moorhead Area Public Schools has licensed and is trademarking its district, M and Spud mascot logos.
