Ground was broken May 4 for the district’s new 110,000-square-foot K-4 elementary school, which is under construction at 4400 24th Ave. S.

The grades K-4 school will include academic learning communities for each grade level. Each team space includes six classrooms, large group and active learning space, special education space and nearby locker bays. The core facilities include a media center, music and art classrooms, gymnasium, commons and office space.

The Moorhead School Board awarded the first $11.7 million in construction bids for the new elementary school at a special meeting April 28. Bids for bid group one came in 9.2 percent below estimated working drawing costs.
